Back in October Marriott Vacation Club made us an offer in the hope that we'd buy shares. They'd give us four nights at 30% of the normal cost. The only catch was having to sit through a 90-minute sales pitch. Still, it was going to be fun to live with a bit of luxury for a while.
This morning we headed for the Flagler Museum.
Henry Flagler made several fortunes, first as a grain merchant, then principally as a partner with John D. Rockerfeller in Standard Oil and later in railroads, hotels and land in Florida. [Flagler Biography]

The Flagler Museum's fall 2015 exhibition With a Wink and a Nod: Cartoonists of the Gilded Age showcases rare original drawings made for the American humor magazine Puck, a pioneering publication that helped shape the character of American humor.
This cover demonstrates Puck's support for Theodore Roosevelt after he ascended to the presidency following the assassination of President William McKinley.

Just north of the hotels at Palm Beach Shores, John D. MacArthur gave 325 acres of land for a state park.
The park includes a large lagoon behind a maritime hammock, dunes, and a seaward beach. A forest trail in the maritime hammock behind the dunes had many native plants.
Wild coffee Psychotria nervosa -- what a GREAT latin name.

The park includes 2 miles of Atlantic beach.

Colored flags were used to warn swimmers of sea conditions.
There were only a few people swimming at the beach. Apart from the cool temperatures, the yellow flag indicated a moderate surf from the steady wind.
We started on the 20-minute Satin Leaf Nature Trail that passes through a subtropical mixed maritime hammock. The mosquitos were so bad that we turned around after a few minutes. This golden silk orb-weaver spider Nephila clavipes was near the beginning of the trail.
Most of the restaurants at Palm Beach Shores sounded pretty boring, but for a restaurant just off the main hotel strip, TripAdvisor gave a high rating to Guakamoles Mexican Grille and Cafe.
Midge had Flautas de Pollo and Ed had Pollo Asado.
We couldn't pass up the opportunity to share a flan for dessert.
Day 33 3 December 2015 To West Palm Beach (17 miles)
This morning we survived the 90-minute Marriott sales pitch. Later in the morning we went to the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach.
We arrived just in time for a short tour of the museum and discussion of art from both the permanent collection and several touring exhibitions.
